Today was the anatomy ultrasound. I figured it would be a long appointment, but 3 hours later I was seriously ready to go home. I understand though - with all the things they look at and measure, and they had to do it twice with me. By the end we were both ready to get going. So the genders were verified; still a girl in the A position and a boy in the B position. However our boy has changed his mind and decided to flip completely over so they are both head down now. We got to see their brains, hearts, stomachs, kidneys, bladders, measurements of the arm and leg bones, skulls, ears, and pictures of their hands and feet, and lips and chins.
Getting the ear measurements was tricky on both of them because wierdly they were both in the same position of having one hand up grabbing their ear. No thumbs in the mouth for my babies, no thankyou, they are ear grabbers. Our girl was all over the place too so it was difficult to get great shots of her. She must have been having a hyper moment because she wouldn't stop the whole time. Our boy however, was laid back and mellow and it took an act of congress to get him to change positions. Perhaps our daughter got a little irritated at this because she socked him in the head at one point. I wonder if she's going to be the alpha baby or if he's just biding his time before getting his licks in. Time will tell.
Add in all the scans and measurements of blood flow from me, to the babies umbilical cords, their hearts, and every other conceivable measureable and it made for a long, long day. It was fun to see them again, and the M.D. said that when I come again in 4 weeks a 3D scan should be pretty cool looking. We had one today, but quite frankly it was creepy as hell. They don't have baby fat yet so it was like looking at a wax doll that had melted a bit. By the next appointment they should be fattened up a little.
The profiles in the pictures are Top= Our daughter weighing in at 11 ozs. and Bottom= Our son weighing in at 10 ozs. 20 weeks down and 20 more to go. I doubt it will be downhill though as it's getting harder to move around. I can't imagine how it will be by the end of all this!
